This summer will bring a never-been-done-before competitive event to the Jersey shoreline that will pitch corporate teams against each other in a dash to Elizabeth Castle and back.
The Hawksford Castle Chase takes place at lunchtime on Wednesday 6th September, when teams of two will race across the sands from West Park to the Parade Ground at the Castle and back again in a unique relay challenge to support Jersey Heritage’s Love Your Castle campaign, with prizes for the three fastest teams to cover the two mile course.
Daniel Hainsworth, Corporate Services Director at Hawksford, said, “We are excited to be exclusive sponsors of the inaugural Hawksford Castle Chase in partnership with Jersey Heritage. This is a fantastic event for the island community and we call on our neighbours along the Esplanade and in St Helier to get involved and enter their corporate teams. The castle makes for the perfect backdrop for a corporate challenge while at the same time, reminding islanders that we need to protect this iconic landmark in the bay.”
The Love Your Castle campaign was launched by Jersey Heritage in March and aims to raise awareness of both the historical and environmental value of the fortress, and a long-term strategy to invest in the interpretation and telling of the history of the site.
Jersey Heritage Chief Executive Jon Carter said, “Elizabeth Castle is very popular with tourists but it is less visited by residents and we want to encourage people to rediscover this important landmark. We are very grateful to Hawksford for sharing our vision for the Love Your Castle campaign and in particular supporting this event, which will help raise awareness and funds through a fun and challenging way.”
Sponsorship and entry fees raised through the Hawksford Castle Chase will contribute to the first project Jersey Heritage would like to undertake at the Castle, restoring the Barracks Hospital building, which is currently closed to the public.
