Client objective

Hawksford has been working with Easyship since 2014 and has seen the business grow and its objectives evolve over time.

Initially, the founders wanted to launch Easyship in Hong Kong owing to its start-up ecosystem – including its attractive tax regime, clear employment legislation, incubator programmes and easy access to investors and venture funding.

Easyship were looking for a reliable service provider who could not only help them establish their business in Hong Kong – providing a full range of corporate services for their start-up – but who could also support them with their planned international expansion journey into other markets.

The first step of this growth was into Singapore in 2016, because of its global standing and business-friendly environment. An entity had to be established in order for Easyship to offer services in the jurisdiction, as local tax registration and a business license is required to operate there.

Given the success of the business in Asia and its subsequent expansion into the US, Easyship decided to move its global headquarters to London in 2019, both for commercial reasons and to more effectively manage its operations across different time zones. This required the establishment of a company in the UK, as well as moving some staff from its other offices. All of which Easyship needed assistance with.

Our solution

Easyship initially chose to work with us due to our specific expertise in Hong Kong, supporting startups with corporate, accounting and administrative matters.

We discussed entity options with the founders – including set-up times, reporting requirements and so on – and were able to establish the business quickly so that they were up and running at speed.

When they decided to set up in Singapore, our expertise in the city-state meant that we were the natural choice to help kickstart their global expansion. Not only were we able to assist with entity set-up, but also employment visas, as well as intercompany transactions between Hong Kong and Singapore.

It was a similar story as Easyship’s business expanded and the decision was made to set up the global headquarters in London, which is now responsible for carrying out all key management functions. We were able to help them with this major change, including setting up a UK company and moving some staff from the Asia offices.

We continue to provide services across these three key jurisdictions, as well as liaising with the service providers Easyship works with in the US, India and the Netherlands as needed. In addition, we support the business with more complex financial reporting when required.
