International Women’s Day 2024

International Women's Day (March 8) celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also calls for action to accelerate women's equality globally.

This year, Chrissi Zamora, Managing Director of Hawksford’s Dubai office, shares insights from her professional journey.

Q1: You have been in the professional services industry for over a decade. Could you share your journey which led to your current role in Dubai? 

In 2013, I left my job in Spain to come to Singapore with a modest budget and no acquaintances in the region. After two months, I joined Healy Consultants Group  (now part of Hawksford) as a client relationship officer in the Singapore office, where I achieved several promotions over four years – a testament to my commitment and hard work.

The turning point came in 2016 when the company's owner entrusted me with establishing a new subsidiary in Dubai, UAE. By March 2017, we completed the company's registration and started our Dubai venture. Since then, I’m proud to have successfully led the growth and development of our Dubai office, while taking on new roles and responsibilities since the acquisition by Hawksford.

Q2: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way, and how did you overcome them?

English is my second language. When I began my career in this industry, I had to work hard to learn the language so that I could communicate fluently with international clients. In our line of work, we often encounter complex projects. I always try to go the extra mile to find solutions for our clients’ unique needs. One key takeaway is to consistently build strong relationships with reputable partners and suppliers worldwide, as their knowledge and expertise can be invaluable.

The lessons learnt through these challenges have reinforced the importance of due diligence, strategic networking, and cultivating mutual respect in business partnerships. I have learnt that success in a global marketplace is dependent on the quality of what we offer and the strength of the relationships we build.

Through these experiences, I gained a deeper understanding of cross-cultural dynamics, as well as an ability to mitigate potential complications and position the organisation as a more competent and dependable partner.

Q3: You mentioned the instrumental role you played in establishing the business’ Dubai office. What is that makes the UAE such an attractive location for business set up?

The UAE presents a compelling destination for business establishments. Strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, the UAE is an ideal hub for businesses seeking markets in these regions. Thanks to its stable political climate and forward-thinking economic policies, the country is emerging as a leading international financial hub.
