Meet Megan Clark

We spoke to Senior Administrator Megan Clark to find out more about her role at Hawksford. Check out the video interview and write up below!

How long have you worked at Hawksford? 

I started working at Hawksford in September 2019. My time here has flown by and it really does not feel like I have been working at Hawksford for over a year! I think that’s because the staff onboarding process helped me to integrate quickly into both the wider business and my team. It also helped that everyone was so welcoming and made me feel like an important member of the team from day one.  

What does a typical day look like in your role at Hawksford? 

My day starts at 8:30 and I feel lucky that every day in my role is really varied. Some days my focus will be on onboarding new clients whereas other days could be more transactional, with my focus being on purchasing or sale of assets, opening new banking relationships, subscribing to new investments, property related work or client meetings. 

One of my favourite aspects of my role is liaising with both clients and intermediaries, which I get to do on a day-to-day basis. I enjoy getting to build a positive rapport with them, which is one of the building blocks of strong and long-standing relationships. At Hawksford I get exposure to a wide variety of different types of trust and corporate structures, which is great to help expand my knowledge further.

Prior to joining Hawksford, I worked at smaller trust companies where I would do all tasks from top to bottom. In contrast, what I personally like about Hawksford is that I can spend more time focused on transactional and more complex work which I find interesting, rather than spending time on tasks which our excellent support services teams assist with.  

What do you enjoy most about your role?

What I enjoy most about my role at Hawksford is being trusted. I know that the Directors and Managers really trust me, which gives me more exposure to certain aspects of being a Senior Administrator, helping me to grow and develop. I am given the responsibility to have a degree of autonomy with transactions and tasks and my input is welcomed and encouraged by the leadership team so I really feel like I can add value. 

Personally, I like having the ability to carry out the process from start to finish and to seek assistance where necessary. We also have a really strong policy and procedures platform which supports the client facing teams and makes our roles much easier and more informed.

I was lucky enough that during my third week at Hawksford, I was given the opportunity to join my Director and the Global Head of Private Client Services on a trip to London, to meet with a potential new client. This was great exposure and highlighted to me that Hawksford do invest in you and provide you with opportunities that you might not get elsewhere.  As our clients are global, there is opportunity to travel globally.  The clients are also really diverse and I have clients in my portfolio ranging from young entrepreneurs in the UK through to prominent families in the Middle East.

What drew you to Hawksford as an employer and what keeps you here? 

Hawksford was appealing to me because even though it is a big company I didn’t feel like I would just become a number. Honestly, I was nervous about the size of the Hawksford before I joined, but as soon as I started, I was pleasantly surprised and felt welcomed straight away. Hawksford also goes above and beyond to arrange great social events and out of work activities. For example, I am currently taking part in ‘Every Child Our Future’, which is a programme to assist children in primary schools who are struggling with their reading. There is always a great atmosphere at the social events and everyone gets involved, which I like.

Hawksford is a great employer in terms of career development; they are always willing to consider requests to support training and even when you complete them, they encourage you to participate in further studies suited to your job role or to help you progress to that next stage in your career.  For example, I am looking forward to enrolling on the Chartered Management Institute for Management and Leadership (CMI) course which can be done in-house.

As Hawksford is a growing global business, it has offices in other locations across the globe – I thought this was great, as it gives me the opportunity and ability to apply for a secondment to one of the other offices and have that global experience.  

However the main reason I was drawn to Hawksford and what keeps me here, is they really value their staff. There are so many opportunities for progression, and they really believe in, encourage and assist you when you want to take that next step in your career. I like that they see the potential in their staff.

Have you been involved in any exciting networking or corporate social responsibility events since joining Hawksford? 

I joined the social committee when I first started at Hawksford. The turn out to the events is always great which goes to show that the Hawksford team enjoy not only working together but also socialising together! Unfortunately, last year and the beginning of this year, COVID-19 has got in the way – but we have adapted to ensure that staff stay connected. I’ve had the opportunity to help plan some of the virtual events arranged during lockdown which have been varied, for example there’s been an online raffle (with amazing prizes), Christmas wreath making, wine tasting, musical bingo, pizza making, 1 month fitness programme – the list goes on!  The business does a lot of socially responsible support work too which I’m involved with. In addition, on my team, we arrange lots of team get togethers to ensure that we spend time together outside of work and these range from dog walks, team breakfasts through to team nights out.

Everyone across the business works hard, which does not go unnoticed. You are rewarded for the hard work that you put in, and there are various incentive schemes to recognise individuals who may have done something exceptionally well. 

All-in-all, as I’m sure you can tell, I really enjoy working at Hawksford and I would sincerely recommend it to anyone!
