Role Purpose
The Associate Director – Business Development is responsible for originating and driving sustainable revenue growth across key markets, positioning Mauritius as Hawksford’s preferred hub for African inbound and outbound investment. The role focuses on converting cross-border opportunity into executable, risk-aligned and profitable mandates across funds, corporate and private client services.
Key Responsibilities
STRATEGIC FOCUS – MAURITIUS AS HUB
• Position Mauritius as the gateway jurisdiction for African private capital, fund structures, holding platforms and family office vehicles.
• Lead Southern Africa key market activity (anchored in South Africa).
• Act as the commercial bridge between Africa-linked opportunity and Hawksford’s global capabilities.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Market Led Growth & Market Development
• Develop and execute a Mauritius–Southern Africa key market growth strategy.
• Identify, prioritise and pursue high-quality Africa-linked mandates.
• Translate regional market trends into actionable BD initiatives.
Business Development & Revenue Generation
• Originate new business through intermediary and direct client relationships.
• Lead complex multi-jurisdictional proposals.
• Ensure disciplined pricing, scope and mandate structuring.
Intermediary Relationships
• Build trusted relationships with law firms, tax advisers, fund managers and sponsors.
• Represent Hawksford in Africa-focused forums and conferences.
Internal Collaboration
• Work closely with Mauritius delivery, risk and compliance teams.
• Ensure opportunities are executable and scalable.
Risk Awareness
• Understand regulatory, reputational and operational risks.
• Align growth with group risk appetite.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
• Deliver key market aligned revenue targets.
• Maintain CRM discipline and senior-level reporting.
COMMERCIAL SUCCESS PROFILE – FIRST 0–12 MONTHS
First 0–6 Months:
• Establish corridor credibility and intermediary trust.
• Deliver early Africa-linked revenue wins.
• Build a robust, qualified pipeline.
Months 6–12:
• Generate sustainable key market driven revenue.
• Achieve repeat intermediary-led mandates.
• Position Hawksford as a leading Mauritius hub for African cross-border structures.
PROFILE & EXPERIENCE
• 6+ years’ experience in business development or origination within professional or financial services.
• Strong exposure to African cross-border structuring (South Africa anchor).
• Proven ability to originate and close complex mandates.
• Strong Networking within African jurisdictions
• Experience with Mauritius structures advantageous.
