Job Purpose:

To assist in building and thereafter lead the newly established Banking Operations function in Mauritius, centralising control of banking relationships (including pricing and counterparty assessment), platform access, and transaction oversight across the Hawksford Jersey Group. This role is critical to delivering on Hawksford’s fiduciary obligations, enhancing risk management, and enabling the phased implementation of automated transaction monitoring and bookkeeping.

 

Principle Accountabilities:

Team Leadership & Establishment

  • Build and lead the Banking Operations team in Mauritius, ensuring alignment with global standards and business needs.
  • Define team structure, recruit talent, and implement training and development plans.

Banking Oversight & Control

  • Centralise oversight of all banking relationships, ensuring data accuracy, counterparty risk management, pricing and compliance with internal policies.
  • Maintain and evidence a panel of approved banking counterparties and oversee regular reviews of credit ratings and service agreements.

Platform & Access Management

  • Standardise and control access to banking platforms across jurisdictions to mitigate fraud risk.
  • Maximise portal access and reduce reliance on physical statements.

Transaction Monitoring & Reporting

  • Deliver enhanced MI reporting on receipts matching, FX margins, and banking fees.

Policy & Process Development

  • Develop and maintain banking operations policies and procedures, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with GRC, and Client Teams, to ensure alignment with fiduciary duties and regulatory expectations.

Strategic Contribution

  • Contribute to the evolution of shared services and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for cash pooling, economies of scale, and improved client service through centralisation.

 

The type of person we are looking for

  • Proven experience in banking operations, or financial control, ideally within a shared services or transformation environment.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with experience managing offshore or cross-jurisdictional teams.
  • Deep understanding of banking platforms, counterparty risk, and transaction monitoring.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g. JFSC) and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on data integrity, MI reporting, and process improvement.
  • Comfortable working in an evolving environment with a strong change agenda.
