Gallery Magazine caught up with our new Global Head of Private Client services, Darren Kelland, to ask him about his new role. Here's the interview:
For many years Hawksford has diligently nurtured and preserved the wealth of multi-generational families, ultra high net worth individuals and fast growing privately held companies: helping clients worldwide to protect what they have and to achieve what they want.
Their multi service and multijurisdictional private client offering is built on long-term, steadfast and personal relationships, founded on a deep understanding of what matters to their clients now and in the future. Their private client team has a wealth of technical expertise in creating trusts, companies, foundations and other structures. The team blend expertise and experience with enthusiasm and entrepreneurialism, ensuring every client interaction is meaningful and productive.
We wanted to understand a little bit more about Darren’s decision to join Hawksford.
Joining a business that has serious ambitions. Hawksford’s 60-year-old private client heritage makes us one of the most trusted names in fiduciary services for wealthy individuals and families from all over the world. Generations of clients take confidence in our expert advice and I want to ensure that future generations have the same level of confidence.
After 13 years in my previous job, getting used to new people, systems and jurisdictions is a challenge. Thankfully, it’s a great team with years of experience and many of whom have been with Hawksford as it has grown. That stability is particularly appealing to clients who like the long-term and personal relationships they have with Hawksford.
Jersey has built its reputation on being one of the most well-regulated and compliant financial services centres in the world. That must continue but I would like to make compliance and regulation a smoother experience for clients. Some clients find regulatory, financial and tax matters difficult to navigate. They turn to us to help make it simpler for them so that they can focus on managing their business interests and creating wealth.
My professional goal is always to be part of the best (but not necessarily the biggest) organisation. At Hawksford, it is one of my responsibilities to help shape that. Clients trust us to protect and nurture their wealth and we need to continue meeting their needs and exceeding their expectations.
To stop making excuses. It can be very easy to put things off but professionally, I know I will be challenged and excited and so need to match that personally. Hawksford’s ethos is ‘thinking beyond tomorrow’ and that seems a good personal goal as well.
Be yourself, don’t give up and do the right thing.
